Dr. Lawrence W. Chakrin, President

Dr. Lawrence W. Chakrin has recently returned to a consulting practice serving Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Companies, and relevant Financial Investment Organizations. For the prior six years, he provided leadership to Science Applications International Corporation’s BioMedical Information Solutions group in pharmaceutical and biomedical technology.

Earlier, Dr. Chakrin served as a consultant to companies in these industries and to governmental agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Medical Research Council of Canada. He has been a Member of the Board of Directors/Trustees for several Academic Institutions, and Commercial enterprises.

Dr. Chakrin has been the President and Chief Executive officer of the University City Science Center. He also previously held the position of Corporate Vice President at Sterling Drug, Inc., and President of the Sterling Research Group; a global research and development organization of some 1,600 people devoted to the discovery and development of ethical and proprietary drugs and diagnostic agents. In this capacity, some of his most significant responsibilities included:

  • Providing direction for such areas of research and development as pharmacology, microbiology, toxicology, pathology, drug metabolism, and clinical drug development. These disciplines served a broad range of therapeutic and diagnostic areas, from cardiovascular, and respiratory drugs, to radio-diagnostic imaging agents. Additionally, in his consulting experience, he has served matters relating to the subject of medical devices.
  • Directing the design of successful clinical pharmacology study protocols, and working extensively with governmental regulatory agencies worldwide to define requirements for new drug applications approvable for marketing. Dr. Chakrin has also consulted with a number of commercial clients, reviewing their INDs and NDAs prior to regulatory submission.

Earlier, Dr. Chakrin was employed by SmithKline Corporation in biological research, holding positions of increasing responsibility during a period of some twelve years.
